Bakers and snack manufacturers are faced with many logistical challenges such as, getting products with short shelf lives to diverse customers on time. With these challenges causing more and more pressure for manufacturers, many have turned to logistics software.

In this article, Westfalia’s Dave Williams, director of software and solution delivery, emphasizes how software can aid in bakery and snack food anufacturing.

Williams discusses how logistics software is key to gathering information and analysis across the supply chain. He says, “The ability to monitor production and inventory levels across the network, in real time, allows the plant to quickly identify trends and monitor increases and decreases in order levels.”

Looking into the future, Williams predicts manufacturers will need software solutions, like Westfalia’s Savanna.NET®, that will control and reduce the complexity of the entire warehouse process. “New warehouse execution systems (WES) combine a warehouse control system (WCS) with a warehouse management system (WMS) to help direct, control and optimize internal material flow and order picking. This enables food processors to increase inventory accuracy,” he explains.

Implementing logistics software will help bakers and snack manufacturers track inventory, increase order accuracy and reduce costs, allowing them to eliminate daily challenges.
