Defeat inventory challenges with automated storage and layer picking

Westfalia’s Aaron Corcoran, along with Cimcorp’s Derek Rickard hosted a webinar titled, “Conquer Order Fulfillment with the Union of Automated Storage and Layer Picking.” During this webinar, Corcoran and Rickard discussed the benefits of combining an automated storage and retrieval system (AS/RS) with an automated layer picking system to combat warehouse order fulfillment challenges weighing on many companies. {image_1}
This webinar outlined order fulfillment challenges often seen in warehouses today and helped attendees to find answers to the following questions:
- What makes up an AS/RS and a layer picking system?
- What factors should I consider before deciding to implement an AS/RS with a layer picking solution?
- How will integrating a layer picking system with an AS/RS improve my order fulfillment process?
- What do I need to look for when creating a custom automation solution utilizing two separate vendors?
As the webinar unfolded, Corcoran broke down the seamless integration of the two systems and explained how together, these systems will not only increase productivity and accuracy, but also help to achieve ROI by creating space, reducing dock staging and improving customer satisfaction.
Rickard helped attendees understand the overarching benefits that can be achieved when the two systems are working together. One in particular benefit to highlight is traceability. The level of traceability captured with a layer picking system integrated with an AS/RS is a big deal, especially for food and beverage manufactures who require detailed information about their products as they make their way through the supply chain. Rickard explained exactly how information is tracked and traced throughout the warehouse to allow for visibility over the entire lifecycle from the production line to the store shelf.
